About the Labour Institute of Zambia (LIZ)
A statutory learning and research institution devoted to enhancing labour market literacy in Zambia
The Labour Institute of Zambia (LIZ) is a statutory learning and research institution established on 13 March 2013 under the Societies Act, Cap 119 of the Laws of Zambia. We are devoted to enhancing labour market literacy, jurisprudential development, and professional competency in employment and industrial relations.
LIZ operates within a Tripartite Plus Labour Market Model, integrating government, employers, workers, academia, and civil society. We deliver capacity-building through blended modalities—face-to-face, virtual, and massive open online courses (MOOCs).
Our work is focused on promoting decent work, fair labour standards, and social justice in Zambia. We achieve this through strategic collaborations with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) and other national, regional, and international institutions.
Our History
The Labour Institute of Zambia was established in 2013 to address the evolving needs of Zambia's labour market. The country's economic diversification, regional integration, and international treaty obligations required a dedicated institution to focus on labour market literacy, labour governance training, and employment law reform.
Since our inception, we have been a key partner in shaping Zambia's labour landscape, working closely with the government, trade unions, employer associations, and civil society organizations.
